Hans Rudolf "Ruedi" Giger  5 February 1940 – 12 May 2014) was a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor and set designer. He was part of the special effects team that won an Academy Award for Best Achievement for Visual Effects for their design work on the film Alien. He was named to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2013. On 12 May 2014, Giger died in a hospital in Zürich after having suffered injuries in a fall.

Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (born 8 May 1938) was a French comics artist. Giraud has earned worldwide fame, not only under his own name but also under the pseudonym Mœbius, and to a lesser extent Gir, the latter appearing mostly in the form of a boxed signature at the bottom of the artist's paintings. He died of cancer on March 10th 2012 at age 73 in Paris.
